Ely Buendia was rushed to the Makati Medical Center after suffering from chest pains during the intermission of the Eraserheads Reunion Concert held at the Bonifacio Global City Open Field. After their 14th song, the band took a 20-minute break pero lingid sa kaalaman ng mga manonood, isinugod na sa ospital si Ely.
His sister Lali went onstage to announce that the concert was being cut short because of Ely’s condition. “We regret to inform you that due to my brother’s poor health, because of the emotional and physical stress that he’s been experiencing, we apologize for cutting the concert short. My brother had to be rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Again, we apologize and thank you for coming here tonight.” Everyone joined a one-minute prayer for Ely.
Ely had been through a lot of stress these days. His mother, Mrs. Lisette Buendia, passed away two days before the reunion concert due to cardiac arrest. Aside from their rehearsals, the E-Heads had their sound check which lasted until 3 AM of the concert day.
He is now in stable condition at the Philippine Heart Center. His wife Diane Ventura said, “He’s stable. He’s free from harm.”
Sa kabila ng hindi inaasahang pangyayari, hindi maikakaila that the Eraserheads is one of the best bands in the country and in the history of OPM. Tinagurian silang “The Beatles of the Philippines.” Ely, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, and Marcus Adoro formed the Eraserheads in 1989 while studying at the University of the Philippines, Diliman.
After they disbanded in 2002, marami pa rin ang nangarap na muling makita at marinig ang E-Heads. It was not easy getting the group together. They are now busy with their own bands: Ely with Pupil, Raimund with Sandwich and Project 1, Buddy with The Dawn, and Marcus with Markus Highway.
Sa dami ng mga nanood sa kanilang reunion concert (over 50,000 people watched!), isang patunay lamang ito na malakas pa rin ang hatak ng Eraserheads.
Kaibigan, usap tayo muli!
